What is the Relative Strength Index (RSI)?
The Relative Strength Index compares the size of recent gains with the size of recent losses and turns the result into a number from 0 to 100. The period (14 by default) is how many daily candles it looks back over.
How it is usually read
Readings above 70 are often read as overbought and readings below 30 as oversold. In a strong trend the RSI can stay at either extreme for a long time, so many traders use it together with a trend filter such as a moving average.
